Digital or physical business cards? Choose for the way you meet people
Digital and physical cards solve different parts of an introduction. One makes contact information easy to update and share online; the other gives someone a tangible reminder. A combination can be useful when its destination is maintained.

When a digital business card is useful
A digital card suits introductions in messages, online meetings, email signatures and social profiles. Send a link and the recipient can open the card in a browser. Contact actions and a downloadable vCard reduce the need to retype details.
It is also useful when your role, number or website changes. You can update the linked page rather than replacing a printed batch. That advantage depends on keeping the account and card available. A web-based card needs an internet connection when someone opens it.
When a physical card is useful
A physical card can be handed over during an in-person conversation without asking someone to open a phone immediately. Its size, surface and print quality contribute to the impression it makes. It can remain on a desk or in a wallet as a reminder.
Printed information is fixed. When it changes, old copies still show the previous details. Production, delivery and replacement batches also have practical costs. Those costs vary by material, quantity and supplier, so there is no universal price comparison with a digital subscription.
Compare the tradeoffs
| Consideration | Digital card | Physical card |
|---|---|---|
| Changing details | Update the same published card page | Printed details stay unchanged |
| Online sharing | Send a clickable link | Usually needs a photo or a separate link |
| In-person sharing | Show a QR code or send the link | Hand over the card |
| Saving contacts | Download a vCard in compatible apps | Usually type or scan the printed details |
| Availability | Depends on the card being published and reachable | Printed text remains readable offline |
| Appearance | Interactive screen design and digital effects | Actual material, surface and print finish |
Use a QR code to connect both formats
A physical card can show your name and a few stable details, with a QR code pointing to a digital card for the rest. Someone can keep the physical card and still reach current details later through the link.
Keep a readable URL or contact route as a backup, and test the code on a physical sample. Do not delete or unpublish the linked card while those printed copies are in use. A changed destination may also need new exported images even if the web address remains the same.
Choose based on your real introductions
If most introductions happen online, begin with a digital card and a clear contact route. If you regularly meet clients or attend events, consider whether a physical reminder adds value. You do not have to purchase a physical card to use a digital one.
MyEliteCard currently provides digital cards, sharing and eligible design exports. Printed NFC ordering through Printags is being prepared, but is not open yet. Delivery availability, final charges and any included card must be confirmed in the order screen once ordering launches.
